The state Senate on Friday approved the bill by Democratic Sen. Tony Mendoza of Artesia, sending it to the Assembly on a 34-3 vote. SB792 passed a week after senators approved a more controversial bill mandating that California schoolchildren be vaccinated as part of an effort spurred by recent outbreaks of measles and whooping cough.
