Dr. Michael Fine said Tuesday’s declaration triggers state regulations requiring all health care workers who have not been immunized against influenza to wear a surgical mask when directly caring for patients. Fine said vaccines are one of the best ways to prevent the flu and to avoid spreading it to people at a high risk of flu-related complications.
