Just before Christmas, the Food and Drug Administration approved a drug that may be a boon to some of the millions of Americans resolving to shed unhealthy pounds in the New Year. The daily injectable drug, liraglutide, is part of a new class of diabetes medicines that prompt the pancreas to make extra insulin after meals.
