As the Ebola epidemic ignites new waves of infection in remote Africa, scientists are racing to find better ways to detect it quickly, simply and cheaply. “There is a very urgent need to recognize the difference between Ebola and non-Ebola patients as it reaches regions where it has not been before,” said Erwan Piriou, lab adviser for Doctors Without Borders, which has tested and admitted 3,200 Ebola patients in Africa.
